The Aligarh Muslim University is different in its scope and character from the 180 odd universities and university level institutions in the country and so is its library. The book presents a detailed study of the Maulana Azad Library, both in retrospect and prospect, highlighting its invaluable treasure of Oriental collections of manuscripts and printed books as also its very rich collections in Occidental languages for which the Library is known as a major library of the world. It throws light on other facets of the library too and introduces it thoroughly to the academic world. A comparison with the libraries of the Banaras Hindu University and the University of Delhi further enhances the value of the book. This comparative study in fact makes the work representative of the general conditions prevailing in Indian University Libraries today.
