In Western countries, people are bombarded with explicit information and images about sex to such an extent that it is difficult to avoid exposure to such material. In view of this, it might be expected that from a relatively young age everyone would be well informed about matters concerning their sexual and reproductive health. However, surveys reveal a somewhat different story and on a personal level, many people may be quote ill-informed about this important aspect of their own health.
