THIS book-'A case study of the Subsidiary Alliance system with particular reference to Hyderabad during the Residency of Henry Russell' developed out of a thesis which I had prepared for the B.Litt. degree at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor K. A. Ballhatchet. Professor Ballhatchet inspired and encouraged me throughout the execution of the project and it was only through his moral support that the work saw the light of day.
