Book Description
Shikshapatri and Vachanamrutam are the basic scriptures of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya (Sect). Shikshapatri is written by shree Sahajanand Swami. It is a sort of code of conduct, a set of rules of moral behavior, for social decorum, religious performance and Worship of God. It aims at marking man's life smooth and happy and achieves final liberation after his death.
Vachanamrutam is a collection of 262 talks delivered by Shree Sahajanand Swami during the last ten years of His life. The book contains the sum and substance of the basic philosophy of Swaminarayam Sampradaya. It has a distinct note of authority as the thoughts are based on His personal experience.
Vachanamrutam is the first literary work in prose in Gujarati literature and provides a good specimen of the cultured Gujarati speech in the age of Shree Sahajanand Swami. i .e. 200 years ago. It is a great gift of Shree Sahajanand Swami to Gujarati literature. Vachanamrutam is a classical book on philosophy and deserves an honoured place among the world classics of its type. It is named Vachanamrutam because it contains nectar in the form of words from the mouth of Shreeji Maharaj Shree Sahajanand Swami.
