Book Description
Women
especially those belonging to the poorer sections of Indian society, constitute
a significant part of the labour force. Although they are not as visible in the
formal industrial sector, a large number of poor women are engaged in the informal
agricultural and service sectors and make an important contribution to the
economic output of the country. In addition, women are engaged in household
work, the productive nature of which is gradually being recognized. Unfortunately,
their contribution in the economic sphere is poorly reflected in the planning
process. Apart from their economic contribution women play a significant role
in upholding the moral and ethical fabric of society. The failure to appreciate
and strengthen this role has contributed to the breakdown of moral values and
the growing violence in our society.
