The American Kennel Club (AKC) is a registry of purebred canine pedigrees in the United States. In addition to retaining its pedigree registry, this kennel membership also promotes and sanctions events for purebred dogs, such as the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, an annual occasion which predates the reliable forming of the AKC, the National Dog Show and the AKC National Championship backed through Royal Canin, formerly the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.
